Acting heroically is a choice. It’s a choice that, by definition, most people choose not to make. Why not?

1. They may feel their action will make no difference
2. They may feel their action will be misinterpreted
3. They may decide their action will allow them to be taken advantage of
4. They may be unwilling to risk disrupting status quo
5. They may decide that the risk is not worth their inconvenience or their physical safety
6. They may feel their action will make them unwelcome among their family, friends, or peers
7. They may feel their action will endanger those they love

There are a lot of practical reasons to choose not to be a hero but that’s why they’re standouts in a crowd.
