Hey Siri — What if I’m just not like everybody else?

Last post I talked about how sometimes we need to give ourselves permission to be heroic. Which seems odd since we’ve already established that everyone has the ability to act heroically. But sometimes we just can’t bring ourselves to believe that. Maybe other people have that ability, but not us. How could we? There are so many things wrong with us. Internally, externally, take your pick. It’s easy to be heroic when you’re just like everybody else, but you and I both know we’re not. We’ve got flaws.

So many flaws.

Let’s face it. We’re weird. And how many openings are there for weird, flawed heroes? None. No wants a weird hero. Conflicted, confused, embattled maybe but weird? No. Which is where we started, right? There’s no way to hide it for long. You and I: we’re not like everybody else.

But here’s the thing to remember. If everyone else was always being heroic, then heroic would be normal, wouldn’t it? Heroes are different – they’re unique – by definition. Maybe there’s hope for us yet!  Let’s talk about it tomorrow.
